so, we got ready-ish for DEMF and Vp today...did brian's dreads and such things, and now i am exhausted, but I will post more details and PICS later...probably sunday night or something. Now, I must SLEEP
( Read more... )
If I ever let my hair get long again, I surely keep it as a mega fro as opposed to dreads.... though having dreads with little clippy thing in the end that I could mount metal weights or swords or some other metallic like headbanging assit item would quit ehorrifying/useful.
um, you have a different type of dreads than brian and sebastien, hon. very different. from what i read on the site you posted for the person you got yours done by...
I'd have to see yours to explain better (in person, not by pics, cuz I'd have to touch them) but there was no use of thread, and wax wasn't neceassary, they stay together by themselves.
personally, i think if you have to ties your dreads to get them to stay that way, it wasn't done well....I mean, come on...sewing dreads? unless you use a synthetic thread, it can ROT. gross. No thanks for me, i'll go the natural route-dreads made of just hair. no chemicals needed, no additives at all. the only thing that we add is a natural, home-made sea-salt & rosemary spray.
I don't use wax...I don't put anything in them at all...except for the occasional diluted sea salt spritz here and there.
I do use a synthetic thread, and I'm tying circles at the root, not to hold them together, but to keep them seperated nicely. I don't have to do that, but it will keep me from having to pull them apart in the future. Everyone I've met that doesn't keep their dreads seperated with string has big mats of stuff at the back of their head...
Mine were not dread permed or anything like that. Just my hair is in them and that's all.
as I mentioned before, i have no idea what method your stylist used to do your dreads, and I can't make any comparison between yorus and the ones i've done WOTHOUT SEEING THEM FIRSTHAND. hance, you probably shouldn't be doing so either. and for the record, no string is needed to keep the dreads i do apart. no additives at all (cept sea salt/rosemary spray and some lovin care).
therefore, we can continue this debate when i return, but until then, it is a bit pointless. your stylist did yours one way, which apparently did not hurt, but judging by her website seems less sturdy to me, and i do mine my own way. I am not in business to do this, i did it for people I cared about. I am 100% self taught, and may have different methods. I certainly do not need you, who has never done dreads before, merely has had them done to you, to tell me how they should be done. try doing them yourself, see the results, and then you might just have a leg to stand on.

That NEVER happened to me!!! You don't need to pull hard to get them tight at the scalp...
