You don't know who the Pixies are? I should beat you, severely. They are directly the band responsible for Nirvana. Kurt Cobain is quoted as saying "I just wanted to make a record that sounded like a Pixies album" or something to that effect, when asked where he got the sound that is grunge. Go, young man, and learn.
