Two More Days

...and then the political hatefest can hopefully die down to the usual dull roar. And I won't get any more robocalls from NASCAR drivers or Andy Griffith, or have to dump the anti-Kay Hagan/anti-Obama flyers in the recycling as soon as I walk back in the door. To be fair, I also immediately toss the Democratic mailings, but really all I've been ( Read more... )

I've heard a lot about the "I'd be comfortable with a circa 2000 McCain ticket." However, the campaign is really bringing out his true colors. I think had he gotten the nomination in 2000, the same thing would have occurred. This says a lot for him as a candidate/sycophant, I just think he's been free to hide that side when it wasn't necessary for the exaltation of his political career.

Well, maybe it's my charitable soul showing, but I'm not 100% sure that it's a case of the current campaign bringing out his true colors, or if it's that eight years and a hell of a lot of pressure from the Elephant have made him a more bitter, angry man. I'd like to think it's the latter, even though it's tragic, because I'd like to think that McCain was a better guy than he is right now, and that perhaps once the race is over, he can be a better guy again. I'm a softie that way.

He definitely shouldn't have hired the same campaign managing assholes that worked for Bush in 2000, though. Maybe they're effective, but they're also scum. A 2000-era McCain would theoretically be surrounding himself with his 2000-era people, and I would like to think that would have been a more gentlemanly race.

You're probably correct in some regards. My big sticker is gun control, which McCain is basically a polar opposite to my opinions. His other policies have all popped up in regards to the election talking points, I don't really think he would have considered them against another candidate.

I like that he can maintain a sense of humor about himself. I was rather impressed with his performance on SNL this past week, it renewed a little of my faith in the survival of his soul.

I wholeheartedly agree with the campaign management. I don't know how he could have allowed that to happen, with his previous problems with them. Clearly, I'm not in politics so I can't truly understand what's going on, but I don't think I could look people in the face after what they'd said and done to him in the past. Especially after his statements about a clean election. He should have known that wasn't a possibility with that team.

I think he simply wanted to win, and those guys were his best chance of doing it. And they brought him a lot closer than he has any right to be.

I'm not sure if we're seeing anything in this election except that McCain's desire to be President is vastly stronger than any moral sense he may or may not have.

Oh right, Hagan's worse than the Devil, she consorts with atheists.

So do you, ya godless madman. :)

Yeah, my brother's always good for some rousing dinner discussion. Somehow he manages to get along with his girlfriend's father... who is a minister. Though that's not as hard as it is to make out, as the fellow is a very tolerant, friendly guy, particularly given the region.

Speaking as an agnostic, all you guys are very opinionated. ;)

Hey! I found out recently that I am relocating to Seattle! Any chance that you will be closer to me in Richmond (DC is fine) within the next couple of months. I would like to catch up with you before I move a few thousand miles away. Do you know anyone in Seattle or Washington? I don't know a soul there and I am bit scared about the move. Would do me good to know that some cool people were on the other end of this rainbow. ;)
