Gaming With Newbies

It's not something I do often. I think the last time I gamed with someone new to the hobby was, um, sometime in the mid-to-late '90s. Last night I had two brand new gamers, a brother-sister pair, at the table. He was mid-30s, she late 20s; both well-educated, interesting people who simply had never thrown dice before. They were interested in D&D, ( Read more... )

Wow, that takes me back. I remember you, Bruce, Melissa, Bonnie, Michael, me, Scott and Chris all spending Saturday nights in your dorm, playing, talking and watching Saturday night live. The comradere was a big part of it. It sounds like you and Aileen have done a nice job introducing the newbies to the world of roleplaying. Congrats!

Gaming with new gamers is my favorite thing in the world. Even if it doesn't stick (my current girlfriend doesn't dig gaming, but has tried), it still forces me to think about roleplaying games in different ways, how to present and discuss them and etc. It helped me realize how Exalted is playable as-written, despite what the Internet says, anyways.

Exalted is extremely playable as written, especially if players are new.

It gets less playable as written as players become increasingly aware of how the game works and start trying to come up with ways to break it though. A good ST can stop most of that from being an issue of course, but the internet lacks an ST to do that, so you get huge amounts of ranting about things that are really not problems in practice. Stupid internet. >

Try this link, if it works:

http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/186-9401097-3205243?ASIN=B000VEHMV0&AFID=Froogle&LNM=B000VEHMV0|Nordic_Ware_Castle_Bundt_Pan&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=B000VEHMV0&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001

If not, it's a Nordic Ware pan, and apparently Target sells it, and a lot of other places besides. We haven't had a bad cake come out of it yet. Okay, there was one that overflowed quite a bit, so it was sitting on something of a motte - but it came right out of the pan and all.
