The Good News Is Rat Poison Is Cheap

Just to get the whole medical drama in one place. (If you don't care about medical drama, go ahead and skip; it's not terribly interesting, or at least as Aileen said, "It was very interesting for five minutes, then it got really tedious.") I'll do a post later on gaming scales of interaction, because I have some interesting theories on dungeon-as- ( Read more... )

No worries! I'm going everything I can to avoid death. (The inability to drink more than half a glass of wine in an evening is a vexing sacrifice, considering the social aspect of our dinner/gaming, but one I'm willing to make.) While what I've been told about the seriousness of it is different than the actual "feel" of the seriousness (my body did not send me any signals after my collapse to say "Something is really wrong"; its signals were more "nah, we're cool"), there is nothing, nothing more sobering than seeing someone you love freak out because you're in trouble. I really don't want to put Aileen through that again.

Things should be fine at this point; the blood-thinners are a reputable way of preventing relapse, they just... well, I'm gonna bruise easily and bleed more copiously. But that's manageable, and a lot better than what could have been.

Oh, and because I forgot just above: Thanks. I really appreciate the kind thoughts. It means a lot to have cool people like you caring about a person they've never met. ;)

This got me thinking about the effect that blog-type sites have on how we connect with people that we don't even really know. It's weird how you can feel like you know or connect with someone without ever having an idea what they are like in the flesh. Kinda cool, kinda scary.

Anyway, I too would have been sad if you hadn't fared well.

Shocking, and what a relief that you're doing okay.

Did they give you and idea of what caused the clots? I ask because there's another writer I know who was just hospitalized by way of a clot. Scary what how dangerous the profession can be.

Potentially: Sitting in one chair for a very long period of time, like in front of a computer...

Well, they ask a lot about "long car rides," which is similar. But there might be a genetic predisposition.. ah, who knows.

I'm glad you're going to be okay, Ethan. I really like the work you do and you seem like a pretty cool guy, so! I'm happy you're still with us, and Aileen.

Holy crap. Yeah, that's an unpleasant situation. Glad you will be well. Keep an eye on the knee pain in the future, eh?

Yeah, in particular "never massage another leg cramp." Apparently that way of relieving pain and tension might knock a clot loose to go meandering lung or heart-ward.

Holy crap, man! I'm really glad to hear you're going to be OK, even if it does mean adjusting your lifestyle a bit.

I was wondering why I still hadn't heard from you; I figured you were just busy as usual.

Best wishes on a proper recovery, especially finding a way to get off the stuff you'd rather not be on.
