25 Things (Not About Me)

1. Laura Lynn (Ingles store-brand) pomegranate/blueberry juice looks great in the glass, but the taste is pretty much exactly like drinking chewable vitamins.

2. Our human facility to anthropomorphize things is frequently scientifically unhelpful, but as a basis for language, spirituality, compassion and art, it's one of the most impressive things ( Read more... )

17. ...tell me more! (I like it, myself, but can't articulate it well)Well, one of the things about MMOs is that they provide this level of transparency you don't get in tabletop RPGs, in part because the players are identifying with their in-game avatars, but from more of a distance. For example, you can find people in tabletop who say "I want this for my character" and "My character wants this" and treat them as the same thing. The line blurs a bit. In an MMO, everyone stays in "I want this for my character" because you're not really empowered to achieve what your character wants. There isn't enough of an interactive NPC cast or a dynamic world for that to work ( ... )

Though to be truly honest, it's probably not too far-fetched to say that there are people who treat them as separate things in MMOs as well, though they're rarely mains. Mains get "progression" as a goal (which may be "collect all the achievements I can" as well as gear and instances), whereas alts might be purely for the roleplay. I know I don't want Ruz to achieve his goals because then he'd have no reason to adventure. Still, I think that kind of separation of goals is a touch rarer online.

...if Ruzakh actually achieved all his goals, we would have one big barefoot and pregnant Horde force FTW. xD

(and if Astolfo achieved his, I'd be executed for crimes against fashion!!!)

I believe there is progression, but -- all 'Attention Shoppers!' Scourge moments aside -- it is in whispers and in guild chats. There is a ton of creativity where we make things happen as we will ... I know Rideout truly attempts to do both, having no especial interest in being the Biggest and Baddest, but worth attempting for fun.

She's also ME (although I don't do half the naughty things she does) so maybe that's why. My roommate and I do have lives, but our Mains are a major part of those lives, and thus my reference to magickal thinking etc. I'm interested in progression across the board! :)

Not at all. He believes in "pertection," and orcs aren't exactly interfertile with half of the women he's attracted to. Besides, Ruz's big secret is that he is a total romantic, dirty jokes and roving eyes aside. He talks a mean game, but he's really not a player - his energies are devoted to caring for his animals, and following Honora around.

(and if Astolfo achieved his, I'd be executed for crimes against fashion!!!)Astolfo is a different case. He acts like the same kind of upper-class twit that he hangs out with, and he seems pretty aimless, but he's inspired by a very heroic (if comical) namesake as well as P.G. Wodehouse. He's an anti-Nyathlarep: not angry or bitter or cruelly humorous, but a genuinely pure soul in the midst of idiots, petty jerks and worthless aristos. (Blood elves, not guildmates, I mean.) There's more to him than meets the eye, but even he doesn't know that. I look forward to having him accomplish ( ... )
