It's definitely a standard of living hit (if, like us, you consider suburban a lower standard of living than rural), but on the other hand, it's good jobs with better security than most these days.

Yeah, the thing about backstory is that it's something that can ease your own comfort levels when you're approaching a game. If knowing the villain's backstory helps you play him more intuitively, where his dialogue flows instead of you having to pause and think "Uh, what would he do?", then yeah, that's active utility for the players as well as you.
Yes to it being Kathy Ryan. I passed on your good wishes last time, and she really appreciated them. Alas, she does not have a very active web presence, or I would direct you there.
She's essentially the one who got me a job at White Wolf in the first place, by passing on an editing test, so I owe a lot to her (particularly meeting Aileen). The two of us go what they would call "way back".

I believed that Kathy Ryan's first job at WW was as an intern for Mage. I thought you were first there and then her.
