"Just So Much Wankery"

(Note: This is going to talk about D&D, and a not-so-gritty, unabashedly heroic version of D&D at that. Yeah, I know, morally simplistic when I can do so much more, but I've already explained the premise of the semi-nostalgic Easter game, and with the promise of having to move back to Atlanta in near future, I'm gonna glom onto all the optimism and ( Read more... )

You know, every time I've world built for it's own sake, it often comes up in game sooner or later even if I wanted it not to.

Well, and I mean, come on, masturbation is fun, intellectual or not.

I find it's always useful just because I have a captive audience. So even if I don't actually wind up using the idea of a Renaissance Italy fusion with the Peking Opera martial arts/performance curriculum, I can chat with Aileen about it.

Though with the shift into "heavy petting," this metaphor's getting increasingly awkward.

You don't have to go back, like, permanently, do you? Yuck.

Not "permanently, as in we can expect to die in Atlanta," but "permanently, as in long enough that we should get a house for the duration of our stay." So a lot of the stuff will go into storage, I think, and my folks will have to find other renters for the house.

It's definitely a standard of living hit (if, like us, you consider suburban a lower standard of living than rural), but on the other hand, it's good jobs with better security than most these days.

"Why are there so many hippies in Asheville?"
"Because there aren't any jobs."

Does this mean that you have a new job situation at WW? (Curious boggan speaking here ( ... )

My job has been ever-evolving, with this whole Senior Developer thing. This is one of the more recent evolutions.

Yeah, the thing about backstory is that it's something that can ease your own comfort levels when you're approaching a game. If knowing the villain's backstory helps you play him more intuitively, where his dialogue flows instead of you having to pause and think "Uh, what would he do?", then yeah, that's active utility for the players as well as you.

Yes to it being Kathy Ryan. I passed on your good wishes last time, and she really appreciated them. Alas, she does not have a very active web presence, or I would direct you there.

She's essentially the one who got me a job at White Wolf in the first place, by passing on an editing test, so I owe a lot to her (particularly meeting Aileen). The two of us go what they would call "way back".

May I inquire as to what kind of job or other occupation Kathy Rian is up to, if not writing her next novel (but maybe both at the same time)?

I believed that Kathy Ryan's first job at WW was as an intern for Mage. I thought you were first there and then her.
