Well, we’re still right in the thick of summer. It’s so strange, summer. The way the whole dynamic changes. And honestly, because so many things have been up in the air so much, I’ve been a lot more stressed out this summer than I normally am during school ( Read more... )

I really enjoyed it immensely. The writing is very plain, very straightforward, which makes it a quick read. But at the same time, every once in a while Ha Jin will go into immense detail about a scene, just in a paragraph by itself, and those moments are incredibly beautiful--especially so because of the extreme contrast. And then, it's an excellent story, and true to the Chinese culture/people.

I highly recommend it.
