vacation is but a day away! even though i've been there a zillion times, even though it's technically an in-state trip, i'm still crazy excited to go to provincetown because, i think, overall, i wish boston would BURN LIKE DAY OF THE LOCUSTS DID. SORRY! anyways, i have to work all day today but am off tomorrow so i will have time to ( Read more... )

Provincetown is sooooo cute, but also kind of a nightmare. I was there for a whole week last summer and by the end I totally had a nervous breakdown from the weird combination of staying in an adorable seaside towne and overwhelming amounts of fag culture. I was staying with my ex-boyfriend and it became a total No Exit type of situation. I think if I go again it will only be for a weekend. Have fun at TEA!

i think that time last year was right when i'd started reading your journal. i remember it being a pretty dramatic introduction.
my parents have a house in provincetown (but are divorcing and selling it) so we used to go up every summer. i haven't been since i was 17, so the extent of my participatory queerness in the past was walking across the dyke at low tide. HA. anyways... not that i hate fags but i've never got on with total like, "culture" gays, so we'll see how it all plays out. most of all, my favorite bookstore is on commercial street and now i'll be old enough to go in the back room and hopefully buy-out its physique pictorial stock. too bad nick's refusing to go on a whale watch!

Oh God, it was incredibly embarrassing and dramatic. I peed on my ex-boyfriend's tooth brush in a fit of extreme jealous passive aggression but then it turned out I had peed on my own instead. It really erased my brain completely. I have never cottoned to the majority of gay culture either, and Ptown displays it in its purest form. Even a more seasoned veteran would have had a tough time, but there were a lot of incredibly ridiculous extenuating circumstances surrounding the entire vacation. It would have been a lovely trip otherwise. I barely remember a lot of it (I'm chalking that up to PTSD) but the beach was amazing and worth hiking too, and I had the best sushi I've ever eaten there as well. Seeing all the lesbians and gays with their adopted children was utterly charming as well.

I think my breaking point was seeing Jeff Stryker's one man show. Don't see it unless you want to experience the ultimate depravity. Forget anonymous BJs under the pier, it's the most transgressive experience in Ptown.

first of all, if boston burned like LA in 'day of the locusts,' so would publick house and beehive, taking with them their selection of fine belgian beers and bohemian underground decor, respectively. secondly, we probably need to set aside special time to prepare ourselves for the gay-stravaganza that is provincetown--a quick viewing of margaret cho's stand-up perhaps?

a harvey fierstein retrospective, perhaps? naw, i'm into cho, fer shore, but i'm still so done with this place right now. if worst came to worse, we could supplicate for belgian brewery foreign aid and air-dropped brazilian cocktails, i bet. waste the place!
