When our countrymen do things like this is there anyone left who doesn't know why we are hated and reviled by so many? Gang rape of a 14 y/o Iraqi girl and then murder of her whole family.

That what you mentioned is NOT the reason we're hated. We needed no presence for the hatred: it's textual. Besides, it's a region bathing in hatred. Gang rape is commonplace over there, and especially in Pakistan. It's part of the "tribal" traditions of "men saving honor" and of "avenging" themselves on the honor of tribes. The consequence in their societies eyes is the woman and her family are dishonored and shamed and the males will not marry a "shamed" female. Just recently a Sunni female member of Parliament accused Iraqi "Shiite" police of gang raping her. Her account was aired on Al Jazeera. So, the Shiites shamed a Sunni woman. Now the Sunni's will avenge her.

And remember what "they" did to Pvt. Jessica Lynch. As badly mangled as she'd been from the accident, they still gang raped her. To dishonor and shame her for daring to take weapons up against a man. In 1973, a brigade of Israeli female soldiers was captured in Syria and they were "gang" raped by Syrian soldiers. And then -- you know they keep Israeli men as prisoners -- they bound the female soldiers with chains and sent them back to Israel. Very few, if any, Moslem men are charged for such acts against women. Not in Pakistan, not in Iraq, not in Syria . . . etc. and so forth. You will find more outrage and revenge killings for what the Shiite Iraqi's did to the Sunni woman.
I just had to add that. So far as I know, none of the Western female hostages taken by the "insurgents" has been gang raped. Almost all have been released unharmed. The male hostages, on the otherhand, they lose their heads. But then, the female hostages have not been soldiers.
