The prompt for this story was “Here comes the sun,” submitted by rosefyre. This story fits into Ruth’s (un)Officially Wacky Boolprop Challenge just before “Myrna, or, Oakapple’s Own.” There are no spoilers.
Rating: G
Dramatis Personae
Old Adam Shankel, vampire of the old school and college student
Oakapple Shankel, his brother, “vampire” of the new school and college student
Setting
Old Adam and Oakapple are in the study lounge in the dorm. They are quite alone, since it is so late at night that it actually counts as early in the morning. As they are sitting and studying, a sudden sound of birdsong fills the air. Old Adam swears and scrabbles in his pocket, producing a phone that he jabs at until the birdsong stops.
OAKAPPLE: What was that?
OLD ADAM: That was my alarm. (gathering his papers and books frantically) Sunrise is in ten minutes. I must go to my coffin now, for I have no wish to burn.
OAKAPPLE: Sunrise? Really? Oh, crap. (begins scrabbling for his own papers and books) I have to get my body glitter on! I can’t let the ladies see me when I’m not sparkly!
(Both tear out of the room hell-for-leather, leaving it empty save for a single piece of paper drifting to the floor)
Note: The title of this story comes from a line in The Mikado, not Patience, but I thought it fit anyway.
