People! So unpredictable!

I'm glad that you, at the very LEAST, were able to get the reassurance that whoever did that wasn't all, "Oh no! This sucks... FOR YOU!"

Hopefully he'll have insurance! I'll keep my fingers crossed for more good news.

Dude, not only does he have insurance, he wants to come over tomorrow and apologize in person. I am seriously amazed. And very, very grateful.

oh wow
that's really awesome that he came back and did that!!!
Like, REALLY!
Good for him, and at least it helps the whole situation feel a bit better even if it doesn't really help much? Peace of mind, in a way?

I hope he has insurance, though.

Isn't it? I was just so ANGRY about the whole thing--not even the money, though that sucks, but the fact that I was parked in the spot I pay for at my building and my car get this fucked up and there was no way I could track who did it--and having it happen on top of all the other bullshit in my life right now was just making me hate the entire world, and now I'm all, like, sunshine and roses. Which is kind of ridiculous, since it still sucks that he drove away originally and didn't come forward until now, but still. Look at people having ethics and morals!

And I just heard from him, and he does have insurance, so yay all around.

woot!!!
you should complain that the cameras should be on. I mean you ARE paying and were uninformed that they were off? That's ridiculous!

I was trying to think of why someone would take a week and then I thought of this time I was in a parking lot and the wind literally ripped the door out of my hands and it thunked into the car next to mine, leaving a dent. The dent was purely cosmetic and the car actually had several and I considered not leaving a note. Then I was like, no, don't be a fuckhead, leave a note. Then commenced a fifteen minute search for a pen in my car. I couldn't find one so I ran into the STaples to buy one and when I came out I wrote the note but if the car had driven off I would never have been able to find it again. Maybe this person just had a really sterile, pristine car with no available pen.

It turns out he lives in Torrance, which is a trek from where I am (not all that far in miles, but a good hour's drive even in moderate traffic), so he probably just wasn't able to get back until Friday. Also, reading between the lines of what he said, it sounds like he was drunk, and he was driving a company car, so he probably just panicked. All of which I can more than forgive since he came back. And brought me a present.

And oh, god, I can so see myself in that exact same situation--desperately looking for a pen or paper and coming up empty. And then I'd feel so guilty if I got back and the car was gone! Driving etiquette is complicated.
