Wow, we got torture porn, dead hot-chick porn, AND the literal stuffing of women into refrigerators all in one episode! Blech.
One of my favorite things about this show, in the early seasons, was how much better it was in comparison to most other murder dramas... the victims weren't anywhere near as disproportionately young, white, beautiful, and female, and their deaths were rarely lovingly sexualized (not that it wasn't ever problematic, far from it, but comparatively it felt like a breath of fresh air on that score). That has been slowly but steadily changing for the last few years, but even so, this surprised me--I felt like I was watching an episode of CSI. Or SPN.
I haven't been thrilled with much of the plot for the last few years--it's frequently felt a little dumbed down, with a little more emphasis on finding new and creatively horrible ways to to torture and kill people instead on the why--but I still love many of the characters. And I'm not sure I'll ever be able to give up the show just because Garcia is one of my favorite characters of all time, and her friendship with Morgan makes me happy when skies are gray. But I rather desperately wish we could get away from the whole hypersexualization of the hot white chicks.
Also, the unsub looked like a hybrid of Jason Dohring and Evan Lysacek. This is kind of disturbing.
