When You Pray, Move Your Feet

My great uncle suffered a hemorrhagic stroke and passed away on Tuesday night. I will be vulnerable here and admit my own naivete; I had never really considered how I would handle it when that generation of my family started to succumb to old age. I'm sorry for your loss. Sometimes misfortune can spur us to action.

All of my mother's and father's generation are gone except a few younger cousins. My step father has two surviving sisters, both in their 80s.

I have to consider my generation now.

I hope you find some good opportunities.

It's a strange thing to start to consider. It really put a lot of things in perspective for me. :)

There are moments when we get that lighting bolt from above that tells us that now's the time to act. Sounds like this one was yours.

Excellent opening entry.

It has become increasingly unpleasant, as I'm getting older, to find that entire generation of my family dropping off one by one. It makes me really think of my kids, who are now probably looking at my mother's generation and thinking they will be there forever.

Exactly. I've been looking at Char and David a lot this week and thinking about how they must perceive all of us adults - the same way I did when I was kid

Wow - I would not think that a nail gun would kill you. Interesting to learn that.

It was pretty brutal. He actually was able to call my mother after doing it, leaving a sort of garbled message. It resulted in him being in a coma and on life support.
