For me, the appeal of a tankini is not having to struggle with an entire wet bathing suit when going to the bathroom. You are only dealing with the bottoms.

Unless I'm on top of the thicket that is my bikini line (read: NEVER!) I prefer board shorts and a tankini top. Men's surfing shorts are a little longer than the girlie board shorts sold as bathing suits, but slimmer than regular men's bathing shorts. I find the ones made for women are too short and not so nice to my thigh fat when I sit down, so I prefer the slightly longer mens/boys variation. Even for the men, they come in some nice colors and designs. Some places sell tankini tops separate from bottoms.

I googled board shorts and got a ton of hits, many doing end of summer close out stuff.

Convenience of a bikini + coverage of a 1-piece = Tankinis!

I like Land's end tankinis and (if they are still selling any at all) they'll be on clearance on the website. Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back!

how high-waisted is the tankini bottom? In other words, I'm worried that it will cut me right across my floppy lower abdomen, if that makes sense. does it come up to your belly button?

and whoa! I'm loving the LE site, but $80 for a bathing suit? whoa.

What do you all think of this with this?

It's adding up to $45, there are cute colors, and it would be a tankini, right?

hmmmmm.

or this swim-skirt on the bottom?

I never thought I'd see the appeal of the skirted suit, but I really do, you know? It would solve the goofy-looking-tan problem as well.

I went to target and bought a two piece by "isaac mizrahi for target" with a tank top and a swim skirt bottom and it's the first really flattering suit I've ever had, very retro and sexy.
