We don't have a landline, haven't had one for about 2 years. Never missed it. I think the 911 thing is an urban myth, but then I've only needed to call 911 once, and it was by a roadside anyways.

i've never called 911 in my life, but I have two kids now so I feel like I *should* worry about it, you know?

The only thing that stops me is, having lived in NYC through both 9/11 and that blackout a couple of years back, knowing that in major emergencies cordless and/or cell phones almost never work. In fact, though our regular phone is a cordless, we have an old school desk phone with a cord in the closet Just In Case. Otherwise, we'd have gotten rid of ours as well long since.

hmmmm. so the emergency thing is definitely a factor. shoot.

must think more.

We live one block away from a major hospital, which has saved our limbs and organ several times already, so maybe that's a consideration too-- we would probably never call an ambulance from here, you know? It has always been quicker just to run/drive.

hmmmm.

We don't have a landline. 911 response in DC is so touch and go anyway so it wasn't really a factor. Hospital a block away? Ditch your phone!
