I randomly got this email this morning from my friend Nathan. It' definitely the nicest email I've ever recieved. I made me pretty happy and I guess made me feel like I should be a better person. More like the person he suggests I am. Meh.

Hey Diana,
Tonight, I was just overwhelmed with how thankful I am for you. You
really are a special person, and it touches my heart. You know what
you make me think of? That beautiful quote that's always attributed to
Nelson Mandela (when in fact it was a woman who said it), that goes
like this:

LIGHT OUT OF AFRICA

"OUR DEEPEST FEAR IS NOT THAT WE ARE INADEQUATE. OUR DEEPEST FEAR IS
THAT WE ARE POWERFUL BEYOND MEASURE. IT IS OUR LIGHT, NOT OUR DARKNESS
THAT MOST FRIGHTENS US. WE ASK OURSELVES, WHO AM I TO BE BRILLIANT,
GORGEOUS, TALENTED, FABULOUS? ACTUALLY, WHO ARE YOU NOT TO BE? YOU ARE
A CHILD OF GOD. YOUR PLAYING SMALL DOES NOT SERVE THE WORLD. THERE IS
NOTHING ENLIGHTENED ABOUT SHRINKING SO THAT OTHER PEOPLE WON'T FEEL
INSECURE AROUND YOU. WE ARE ALL MEANT TO SHINE, AS CHILDREN DO. WE
WERE BORN TO MAKE MANIFEST THE GLORY OF GOD THAT IS WITHIN US. IT IS
NOT JUST IN SOME OF US; IT IS IN EVERYONE. AND AS WE LET OUR OWN LIGHT
SHINE, WE UNCONSCIOUSLY GIVE OTHER PEOPLE PERMISSION TO DO THE SAME.
AS WE ARE LIBERATED FROM OUR OWN FEAR, OUR PRESENCE AUTOMATICALLY
LIBERATES OTHERS."

You do that for me, and for others: you let your light shine, and it
blesses those around you and enables them to be more free with who
they are, and more filled with joy. Thanks for bein you. Have a good
weekend. Nathan.

In other news, last night we went to the far far south side (15 minute drive from the second to last stop on the red line) and hung out with our friend Jacque from the DR Congo. There was a party with a bunch of his friends from all over Africa. There was delicious food and lots of dancing. Honestly I don't think I've ever had so much fun dancing before. Congolese music is irrestiably dancable.

Today I took the Elementary and Middle School Content Area Test as part of my certification. It was the most random test I have ever taken in my life. Questions about how to teach literacy next to questions about the doppler effect next to a question about expressinig color through dance, followed by a question on smoking during pregnancy. Ohh boy, hopefully I won't soon be called Diana Failure McFailureface.

That is all.

P.S. Anyone happen to have an extra computer monitor lying around? I'm pretty much positive that mine is broken (or a ghost now inhabits it as it keeps turning on and off on its own). Ho hum.
