June is the new articles challenge on Fanlore, and I seem to have created 35...
The first theme was fandoms, and for some reason my mind went to
Sex and the City. The post for the second theme of characters happened to mention
Elrond, who has been on my hit list for years;
Galadriel was an obvious next article. I was planning to start a few more female characters, but the theme changed to fanworks, so I started a few essays & a blog instead...
On Female Characters and Femslash in the Silmarillion Fandom,
'That tall fellow next to Galadriel.' A short article about Celeborn,
What Tolkien Officially Said About Elf Sex &
Tolkien's Women. Notably, of all the women mentioned in the final blog, only Galadriel & Tauriel have articles...
aralias, meanwhile, was busy starting articles on Blake's 7 characters, which reminded me of Kathryn's
Let Me Count The Ways The World Ends, about who survives Gauda Prime.
I'd been meaning to do some Earthsea fanfiction, and
mctabby's amazing Ged/Jasper story
Sparkweed was the first to spring to mind. Then I got waylaid by realising that 'A Deeper Season' had become a blue link, but it was a different story! So I started a long-requested page for the
Vorkosigan version. Then I got sidetracked onto the idea of making enough Vorkosigan fanfiction articles to make a special subcategory for them, and started Sahiya's lovely
Five Ways Ekaterin Never Met Miles at Twenty &
Project Goldfish, a 1998 story that still gets recommended. Then I got hit by the idea of working out which Vorkosigan stories merited articles, and went through Crack Van, Fancake, and a number of other sites and compiled a Great Big List,* which of course put an immediate stop to starting actual articles about them. Instead I did a
Timeline of Bujold Fandom.
And then I got started on characters... and made enough to start a subcategory for them too:
Alys,
Bel,
Duv,
Gregor,
Ivan,
Kareen,
Laisa &
Taura. For once I managed to create more female characters than male! And I did a few pairings too:
Gregor/Laisa,
Ivan/Byerly &
Simon/Alys. I discovered some recent fan art on Tumblr, especially of Kareen.
And then I started on infrastructure:
bujold_fic, aka the
Lois McMaster Bujold Fanfic Community & its long-running
Bujold Ficathon. Meanwhile, the Sharing Knife redlink was becoming more & more annoying, so I eventually caved and started
the fandom. And then there were a few miscellaneous...
Jeanita Danzik, the late Q writer,
Kasiopea, the wonderful Tolkien artist,
Life, stripped of all luxuries, a Chalion story that flitted by on Fancake, two Spuffy archives,
Nocturnal Light &
The Spuffy Realm, and several others on challenges that I seem to have deleted while constructing this mega-post...
*For those interested A Maze of Twisty Passages, All Alike by Molly/Merry(ish) just pipped Aral Vorkosigan's Dog by Philomytha, followed by Guerilla by Glishara & Tides of Stars series by Tel.
