As usual, a week lacking in much other than volunteering and going to the movies. Here's what I saw:
On Friday, Mom had rented the latest Almodovar movie, Broken Embraces, which I had wanted to see but never got around to doing so while it was in theaters. It's about a filmmaker that revisits the events that led to the making of his last film upon hearing that the man having an affair with his lead actress has died. It's powerful, funny and sexy- par for the course for Pedro, in other words.
Saturday,
gryftir was in town once again, and before heading out to see Harry Brown, he showed me an online series starring Tony Hale of "Arrested Development" fame, "Ctrl". It's about a guy working in an office that spills some iced tea on his keyboard which makes things like Ctrl-Z actually undo real-life happenings around him. The premise is hokey, but if you can get over it, it's good comedy. Michael Caine's latest film is... awesome, as long as you're not squeamish. He delivers a performance that's so insanely rewarding to watch words don't do it justice. Go out and see this one, it's a treat.
And today I caught Ridley Scott's latest offering, Robin Hood. Most of you know that I follow news on movies and various other forms of media religiously, but sometimes I'll just hear about something go, "Oh, that's cool" and move on to the next item of interest. Such was the case with this film. I had only seen previews for it, so beyond hearing of its inception, I had no knowledge what I was in for. So in case that wasn't emphatic enough, let me spell this out: I had no fucking clue Kevin Durand was playing Little John, and I loved the shit out of him and his accent. The rest of the movie is damn good-- solid performances, great action sequences. I'm at a loss as to why the reviewers were only lukewarm about this. Go check it out, it's a fun ride.
And now the main reason I'm posting-- a meme from
fabula-umbraeIf you comment I have to:
1. Respond with something random about you.
2. Tell you which color you remind me of.
3. Tell you my first memory of you.
4. Tell you what animal you remind me of.
5. Ask you something I've always wondered about you.
6. Tell you my favorite thing about you.
7. Tell you my least favorite thing about you.
8. Challenge you to post this on your journal.
My surgery, postponed time and time again, is now finally happening next Monday. Had blood drawn today for that, everything's in normal ranges. Here's hoping it all goes according to keikaku.
