AWRIGHT!!!!
Being in the Santa Parade was number 8 on my Mission 101 list and I did it yesterday!
Well, I know I kept posting about how I wished for good weather so we could go on the Santa Parade... but honestly, yesterday's weather was just a tad TOO good. Urgh.
Got up early, had breakfast and changed into St John's formal uniform... Do you have ANY idea how hard it is to get short, layered hair all up, off your shoulders and neck and into a cap?!!! It's HARD.
Anyway, I got to Headquaters a bit before nine, signed off my name and we waited for people to come. All of Epsom arrived and soon enough, we were practicing drill since we were in the Drill Squad for the Santa Parade.
At first, it was HORRIBLE. We were horribly out of time, out of line and completely in a mess. XD Didn't really help that after a while the drill commander got a bit confused with the set steps and such. AHHAA. LULZ.
It was hot, but it wasn't really hot but we were ordered to take off our jackets - "Cool down NOW because once you get on that bus, there will be NO JACKETS COMING OFF."
Rawr!!! And I learnt that hairspray fixes EVERYTHING. From hair to stockings. LMAO. Someone accidentally ripped theirs a tad and she just grabbed the hairspray and used that to fix it up. IT WORkS. XDD
We practiced marching, saluting, saluting on the march, marking time, standing... and when we STILL couldn't keep formation and stay in time with each other, they made us call drill cadences which was kinda hard because we started calling with numbers and that confused us a tad since we couldn't figure out if 'one' was for left or for the right foot. XDD
After that, we had lunch - they handed us FROZEN WATER. Thing was, they stuck them into the freezer without opening them and so... when we opened the bottles for the first time, it exploded on us. HAHA!!! Amazing. XD
After a LOOOONG wait, we got on the bus and really, no jackets came off. XDD
When we arrived at our spot in the parade, we had to wait about TWO hours until the stupid parade started. Urgh. (And we saw Santa being FORK LIFTED into his sleigh!) LOLZ.
Oh and before it started, the commander of the colour party person thinger had this stick... well, this drill stick thing. Just to make him look cool. XD Nah, it was formal but he started playing with it and one of the guys did something to piss him off (or annoy him, whatever) and the guy with the stick used the stick and whacked the other guy on the ass. The other guy jumped, grabbed his ass and SQUEALED!!!
It was AMUSING since after that, the guy with the stick was like: "Next time, I'll SHOVE it up your ASS."
And then *flirty bedroom eyes* followed and I was just so amused with this white guy fanservice happening right in front of me. LOLZ. I swear, I don't do this just for the gay. XD Hehe.
Just to test if we could hear anything, they practiced with the dummers and the music going and it was true... half of us couldn't hear.
To make matters worse, it was hot, and we were wearing ALL BLACK. The girls were wearing black jackets, black stockings, black shoes... and to make it even hotter, we had to wear gloves. Fortunately, they were white, but they were cotton and it was fucking hot. The guys wore black pants instead of skirt. But we were all in black anyway.
So after standing around for so long, we were so happy the stupid parade finally started and we started marching. Only thing was, the Colour Party in front of us had to slow march and we marched behind them and the wardens were like: "OMFG HURRY UP. You're holding up the parade!"
And we were like: omfgstfu. But we couldn't since we were on parade. DX
My arms feel kinda weird now after all that marching and soluting...
It was alright for awhile but the team behind us (a different part - not St John) started drumming and it was bad since half of us couldn't hear the commands and so we were terribly out of time. We ended up calling cadences throughout the parade. =D
Marched down Queen Street - THERE WERE HEAPS OF PEOPLE. Estimated quarter of a million turned up to the city to watch.
So we marched, we saluted, we stopped, we did stuff... etc. When we got to the end of Queen Street, we rounded into Customs Street and then rounded up again in the same direction, but not Queen Street. The wardens were like: OMFG You'RE SO FUCKING SLOW HURRY THE FUCK UP OR GTFO MAH PARADE.
And we were like: GTFO OUR WAY BITCH.
He seriously pissed me off because really? He's a nobody, we only listen to the commander, sorry. Asshole.
Well after a bit more marching, this stupid Asian family ran across the road in front of us (seriously the roads are CLoSED for a reason. Main reason = THE PARADE is ON the ROAD.
And we were like: SHIT. (in our minds) but the crowd was much more vocal. HAHA. They started screaming: WTF ARE YOU DOING?!! GTFO THE ROAD!
XD Was AMUSING. Oh and I forgot, we we passed the St John crowd, they were chanting and screaming haha. And we saluted them and then marched off and I gave the warden the evils because he was seriously getting on my nerves. Like, STFU man.
It was SO hot, I could feel the sweat running down my arms under my jacket and the brilliant Chinese group of drummers behind us were all drumming out of time with our steps so it was really clashing in my head (Seriously, you do NOT know how hard it is to walk).
It was so hot, and so on top of the drummers, I started getting this massive pounding in my head and I could feel my heartbeat going really fast (not really in time with the pounding in my head so that was fucking bad).
And since the drummers were going on behind us, we couldn't hear whatever the commanders were ordering so we started making things up. Haha. Not so good.
Well we got to the end of it and one of our commanders was like: off with your jackets, hat, tie, gloves EVERYTHING. Take them off before you all faint with heat stroke or something.
And we all just stood there. The heat made our reactions just a tad slow. XD
Ah... it was good. I love doing drill. It's so awesome when a group of people all start marching and stop or follow orders at the same time together. There's this sense of awesomeness when we get it right. XD
<3 marching. I really hope I will do Anzac Day next year because that would be MORE drill!! Yay! And I like the gloves they make us wear, even if they aren't fitted and fall off. Lolz.
Oh and I saw Primo the Penguin. I feel sorry for the guy in the penguin suit. DX He must have been scorching. But then again, he rode in a mini ambulance instead of walking the parade. Hrumph.
Even though it was really hot and crazy, I'd want to do it again next year! Because it was fun!
It's a pity we didn't actually GET to see the parade since we were in it. Aww...
Then yesterday night, I went to badminton. ...hehe how smart is that. =_= so today, my arms ache from all the marching and the badminton. _O_
