So, okay, I've been living in Japan for nearly a year now.  Not too much has happened because I happen to live in a place that is the perfect mix of city and country all in one.  Yes, my city has LV, Prada, Hermes, etc. stores, but it's also a city in which, for example, my junior high school has a small rice field across the street from it.  My ( Read more... )

Hey Essie! Nice summary, I too have gotten quite reflective in my old age :-) Hmm jpop to kpop... any suggestions? I like a few Korean groups (Nell, Epik High) but always like finding more.

Also, I know someone who is in high school and is interested in the JET programme and I thought of you, would you recommend it or do you have any advice? Thanks!

Hey! Um, I like a lot of SM artists, so SHINee, Super Junior and So Nyeo Shi Dae (SNSD). I tend to like pop more and I'd say Nell and Epik High are definitely not in that category.

As for your friend, he or she has to get a university degree before trying to apply to the JET programme because they want adults with higher education. Other than that, I don't think I would have to recommend anything because it really depends on the city that your friend is applying to. All consulates have their own idea of what they want to see in hiring future JET participants, so I don't really know what I can suggest other than your friend can't be a flake who wants to party it up in Tokyo every weekend and make the programme/hiring city look bad.

Yeah he says he's planning to go to college, but I was worried that he might drop out or fall behind in some way so I wanted to help him think of some things he can have as goals. Thanks for the info =)!
