All that favouritism and having to know the right ppl at the right time is what really turns me off research type projects and all that shabang (if that's what you're doing, but even if you're not, it's one of the things I hate about the real world! heh). I do hope your abilities are seen though, and things work out better!

As for the friend, we all know someone like that. It's uber annoying, as you already know. Mostly my family fits description #1 (I'm the youngest of the family, besides the very little kids, so whenever I start talking about something, eyes gloss over and other conversations start up among them! ugh).

Use psychology on her. Ignore her comments and dont give a reaction...just start talking about something else?? Maybe her silly comments will decrease with time? Or..not..hehe. But youre definitely not alone with it.

Sometimes it is better to be alone than have friends and to feign enthusiasm at people vocalizing their thoughts about their lives. Seems like she gets bored of people talking to her though. That makes sense because her head's probably saturated with the thoughts about herself. So she's just not willing to listen to you but willing to find the next victim (like find somebody in that hallway) and tell THEM what great marvels she's accomplished. Well, isn't that special? Sometimes, I just say fuck it to having friends.
