My Mother's mother, Memaw, has been getting worse and worse over the past year. Alzheimer's, not eating, anxiety, fraility, etc. Back before she had to move in with my Aunt, she fell down the stairs on the back porch of her home and hit her head on the concrete. Now, here comes the voice of experience. You can disregard anything I say, but I am also willing to answer any questions the best I can.
From taking care of grandma, I will tell you that you can push extremely hard for a rehab place. When you get her into one, it will likely take a family member being there for all therapy sessions and backing up the therapists all the way, but you can get rehab. I know, I have rehabbed an extremely stubborn old lady repeatedly. Rehab, and even a temporary stay in a SNIFF (skilled nursing facility, ie nursing home) are initially covered by medicare for something like 100 days. They *cannot* place her *anywhere* without the consent of a family member.
