My Mother's mother, Memaw, has been getting worse and worse over the past year. Now, here comes the voice of experience. You can disregard anything I say, but I am also willing to answer any questions the best I can.
From taking care of grandma, I will tell you that you can push extremely hard for a rehab place. When you get her into one, it will likely take a family member being there for all therapy sessions and backing up the therapists all the way, but you can get rehab. I know, I have rehabbed an extremely stubborn old lady repeatedly. Rehab, and even a temporary stay in a SNIFF (skilled nursing facility, ie nursing home) are initially covered by medicare for something like 100 days. They *cannot* place her *anywhere* without the consent of a family member.
