Lessons Learned(Wee hours Sat Morning)
"Goodnight, Kaeli. I'm sure we'll meet again soon.I shudder, feeling as if I'd just been threatened,and thinking to myself,not if I can help it. I'm growing irritated at being this afraid. I was taught better, I know better! I'll ask Glass about it next time I see her. I may even pay her a visit.
I leave the bar,Valmont behind me,unusually silent.The doors close on the noise and leave nothing but us and the night.
Now that I'm outside the warm glow returns. Yep it was the company all right. I'll have to remember that for next time. I shouldn't have dropped my guard so easily, but everyone else seemed so nice.And poor Valmont,I'm so embarrassed. My first night here and I looked like a fool,I guess it can only get better from here,hopefully. He doesn't seem as bad as Glass warned, but then she doesn't strike me as the type that has much need to lie either.
I take a deep breath of the night air and feel my body relax a little, it's still dark and it's still raining but I don't mind it at all and don't even bother with my umbrella. I take off my wet sweater and I close my eyes and let the rain wash everything away. I take another deep breath, even better. Forgetting he's there for a moment,I murmur, "Such a strange and pleasant feeling, the warmth of the mead and cold of the rain. I can see why people become addicted to the stuff! "Another deep breath, I open my eyes and say in a sigh, "Ok better now."
Realizing again,how unusually quiet he has been and seeing the concerned and confused look on his face. I smile weakly up at Valmont and say," Thank you,truly, it's your birthday and you end up babysitting me as if I were a child. I wouldn't blame you a bit if you never spoke to me again." I drop my eyes to the ground. "My school is right by the park, a bit of a walk, but on the bright side, I have a bottle of something at the school, it was given to me as a welcome present,though I have no idea what it is. If your still in a celebrating mood?
Maybe I can recover this night after all...
