Nighttime, Day 22
I've put this off as long as I dare to. Last evening, after my frustrating conversation with Yohualli Eecatl was spent with Anushka, hearing her bizarre and twisted stories in amidst bouts of eager and athletic sex, or else wandering the town and hills. At some point soon I'm going to look up the sin-eater again, see what I can do about getting that damned bell-jar away from her, but for now...I have obligations.
He is not happy with me. Not at all. Him running into Verdandi was a shit piece of luck. It wasn't as though I planned to hide her from him forever, but I did want to keep her existence as a potential bargaining chip or a way to curry favour. And of course he decides to walk into the tavern the same day Anushka takes it into her head to go visiting. Shit luck all around, and now I have to deal with the consequences.
If I wait for him to summon me, it's going to be all the worse. Best to go now, accept whatever punishment he metes out. Get it done.
In that spirit I approach the water tower, this time as a Man, and ask for permission to enter. Sugaar's servants show me in, through the door and into the main room, where he is waiting. I have no doubt he was expecting me.
I go down on one knee, my head bowed.
"Greetings, Sugaar."
