Balance In The Gap

I wrote a song. About a man. Whom I'm not even involved with. What is my brain?*

*I understand that this is relatively normal but it feels kind of weird and creepy to me. Anyway.

The vocals-only prelim recording can be found here.

Balance In The Gap

Years ago we met; a few years later, yet again
Thought nothing of you at the time; you were a friend of a friend
But then this year we talked and my composure fled away
Words are coming easy, but I’m not sure what to say
//
You’ve captured my attention with your greyhound grace
And though neither of us thinks that I’m some prey for you to chase
It seems you all-unknowing hold my heart in your hands
And if you’d like to keep it, I have two simple demands:
//
Lift my head above the water, keep my feet above the ground
So long as you or I don’t falter, ain’t no-one will bring us down
Though the physics may be tricky, we’ll find balance in the gap
When you pull I’ll pull, and when you push I’ll push right back
//
Well, it’s a game of trust, you see, and please make no mistake
It’s not a lack of trust in you that’s made me hesitate
It’s myself I’m rather wary of; I know my history
And my infatuations end with me in agony
//
But maybe now I’ve grown enough that I can finally say
To hell with caution, common sense, I’m running off to play
A tune with a new partner who can sweep me off my feet,
And while we dance in harmony, I’ll drum out a new beat
//
Lift my head above the water, keep my feet above the ground
So long as you or I don’t falter, ain’t no-one will bring us down
Though the physics may be tricky, we’ll find balance in the gap
When you pull I’ll pull, and when you push I’ll push right back
And lift your head above the water, keep your feet above the ground
So long as you or I don’t falter, ain’t no-one will bring us down
