I've been thinking on suffering tonight, and the meaning of Jesus's passion as it relates to the uniting of the suffering of God and man. Because Jesus suffered, God understood all facets of human suffering through his own experience and not by virtue of his omniscience alone. Likewise, Jesus's passion opened the doors for man to unite his ( Read more... )

Oh I highly recommend it! Most of the book is actually just a good romp of a read, a topsy-turvey detective novel that's really fun. But at the same time it has some powerful scenes (like this one) and some glorious theological insight into the human condition -- not to mention very some pretty writing.

That sounds like an awesome book! And Chesterton sounds like an awesome writer! :D

Thanks for sharing this.

I've been thinking about the value of suffering myself lately. Something always comes out of suffering... something intense, beautiful, fearful, and transcendent. I think it is divinity. And I don't think any human can ever become at all divine without suffering.

Chesterton is a truly awesome writer! Both on the sentence and structural level and of course his ideas! I appreciate his energy and his glory so much in a world of much mediocrity infused with the idea of "just getting by." In case it isn't obvious, I do recommend reading anything he's written.

And I just saw your entry on suffering today! I think perhaps in the wake of Holy Week and then Easter, it's a subject on a few of our minds. I think that what you say has great validity: it is those who have suffered and who have come through it with God who are the best among us.
