Itchy

So I started getting weekly progesterone injections (17P) to reduce the risk of pre-term labor this go around.   I'm not new to progesterone injections, they don't scare me, and honestly they don't even hurt me.  I can't for the life of me figure out why a nurse has to come out every week to administer the injections... it's not like I've never ( Read more... )

Sorry to hear about the itching. Can you take a progesterone suppository instead?

Not really - it doesn't have the same effect. This isn't quite the same progesterone formulation as that which you take after transfer in IVF. I think the dose is higher, and I'm not sure about all the other details.

I took 17P from 19w til 36w. I gave myself the shot actually - and Shimie would pull his shirt up and pretend to give himself a shot. lol.

I have no issue giving myself the shot. The home health care company will have nothing to do with it. As far as I can figure, the only doctors who give their patients any credit for having a brain in their head and for being capable of such things are reproductive endocrinologists).

Steve gave me my first progesterone shot last night. Thankfully it wasn't bad at all!

I hope the itching stops for you soon!!

I don't find the injections themselves problemmatic. I'm, fortunately, not phased by needles. I never had any sort of itching or anything with the PIO after IVF. This progesterone is somewhat different, but still in sesame oil (or similar), and the itching is ridiculous!

You can get it compounded in cottonseed oil if you are so inclined.

yeah, I know. Though I've never seen anyone do that with the 17P - just with the PIO used after IVF (they're slightly different, but the difference eludes me, despite Seth's best efforts to explain it to me). I'm not too inclined to get it specially compounded at this point, because it's itchy, but it's not like there are any welts or anything like that. This pregnancy seems to have made my skin super sensitive to EVERYTHING. I've never reacted to adhesive before, but I get huge welts and inflammation from the adhesive on the PICC dressing (we've tried several kinds - and have resorted to gauze dressing for 2 days, tegaderm for 5 days for the time being and have switched from chloroprep to betadine which helps a little). Until I took a course of IV steroids in December/early January, my whole body itched and itched unrelentingly (my skin was RAW from scratching in my sleep), but fortunately that went away on the steroids and hasn't returned ( ... )
