I learned this song in elementary school! It's a little different, though. The one I remember, and I wish I could find all of the verses for, went:
Oh once there as a goat A very clever goat spoke French and German fluently as you will know That goat he crossed the sea From Spain to Germany And ended up upon a farm in Normandy And once upon that farm He thought without alarm To steal a cabbage it would surely do no harm....
And there are maybe three more verses that I can't recall. I went searching for them and found your page. YAY! later
a very clever goat

ha! we must be the only people in the world who still knows this song exists.
i only remembered the second stanza, so i googled "this goat he crossed the sea," and came up with one result, the one above.
i believe the third stanza however is like this:
"Although no harm was meant The Farmer did resent and had the goat arrested and to trial sent.
OOOOOOOOOOOO fa la la la la tra la la la la la And had the goat arrested and to trial sent."
the fourth stanza says something about the goat being sentenced to shame. i don't remember the lyrics. i'm not even sure of the name of the song. someone let us know! post it here for everyone to see, but also message me on myspace please! (i'm not a member of live-journal)
I have been looking for these lyrics for years. I used to sing that song in grade school 25 years ago. I can't believe how obscure it is. This is the only place on the internet with accurate lyrics. I cannot remember any more than previous posters, but I am so glad for the information.
