The Denver Christmas Trip
From last Tuesday to Christmas my family and my sister's boyfriend paul went to visit my family in Denver CO.

The last time I saw all of them I was 10.
We arrive at the airport and meet up with my uncle Ted and we go back to his house.
Ted has always been impatient and irritable and he dreads meeting up with his brother Dave because of his wife Renae. Renae does her best to be a good host and is really nice, but she can get very talkative and pretty annoying. She has a bad habit of saying "huh dave?" after everything she says and can be pretty possessive of Dave (not wanting him to go to the grocery store without her going along for who knows why). So we spend the first night at Ted's house. In the morning we go over to Dave and Renae's (the huh daves as ted calls them) and eat breakfast burritos. Ted says hi, drops off Allie, and makes and excuse and leaves. After a bit of shopping, we went to an old german restaurant. The restaurant was as stereotypically german as possible. The waiters all had huge grey mustaches, and every time they came to a table they would play jokes on us that weren't funny, treating us like two year olds. The menu was funny, the salad menu the waiter informed us was no longer available, leaving the only vegetable on the menu to be sauerkraut. The only meat on the menu that was not ground or in a sausage shape was the chicken fried steak, which as it turned out was just glorified, breaded sausage. We spent the night with the huh daves, and went to breakfast the next day at "the eggshell" an equally appetizing restaurant. The service was slow and my food arrived cold, and when I finished I was still hungry. Later that day we continue shopping and I bought Napoleon Dynamite. All the while Allie has been calling her mother, Rosa, to find out what her plans were for Christmas day. Rosa is an alcoholic. She is a disgrace to my family. You aren't supposed to wish evil on other people but I think she would be better off dead. When we were riding in the car Ted's phone rang and he picked up to talk to Rosa and all i heard was. "Hello...Apparently not because you're completely drunk right now...i can't believe you would do this to your daughter...really Rosa? I Don't care. Every time I talk to you, you give me another lie. you told me you were sober for 3 months and now the paramedics came last night?...I dont care stay out of my life...Goodbye Rosa." The next day is Christmas eve and me my dad, my two sisters and paul went skiing. it was really fun and we came home tired. when we got there my cousin Shawn and his daughter Riannon were there as well as the rest of the family. we ate a christmas dinner and we opened whatever presents we had for each other. Shawn is a really cool guy. The last time I saw him I was 2 years old. Shawn had a rough life. His father Dave never really brought him up well or showed much love for him. (I found that my picture was on daves fridge but not shawn's his own son). Shawn was a dead-head (a big fan of the grateful dead) and had gone to hundreds of Dead concerts, and basically lived off other people for a while. After having his daughter Riannon (who seems like she is slightly mentally retarded) Shawn started to try to settle down. He used to have long dread locks but now he had cut his hair and allowed it to grow back longer (a little more than shoulder length bit he kept one dread). He apprenticed to become a glass blower and basically lived off of Ramen and beef jerky until he had enough skills to start work. Since then, he has become a really talented glass blower and makes a good living selling his wares. He has always been really nice and easy going making him really fun to be around. My parents were surprized with how adult-like he has become. He brought his grandma and father a christmas present and when he was asked what he wanted for Christmas a few days earlier, he asked for a mini vacuum cleaner to keep his house cleaner.
We spent the night with the huh daves again, and in the morning we pack up and go to Ted's for a breakfast before our trip home. I hear allie talking on the phone (she is now in 4th grade) with her mother, and when she is done Ted says "You decide." Ted didn't want to take Allie away from her mother altogether (though it would have been better for her) so he would always try to let her be with her mom. The problem was, he would always have allie make the decision whether her mother was too drunk. Rosa doesnt take care of allie, allie takes care of rosa. Once when she was four Allie made dinner for Rosa when she was too drunk to stand. Once Rosa abducted allie for 3 weeks, without telling ted, leaving him in a panic. He called law enforcement, relatives, and rosa's friends. Once he called my mom crying he was so scared that he may never see allie again. Finally, Rosa's relatives call ted and tell him where allie is. In short, Allie does not need her mom but she loves her anyway. This time, her mother was drunk, but maybe just maybe she could spent Christmas with her. This left allie in a lose-lose situation. Either risk her safety and visit her mom or miss seeing her mom on Christmas. Allie chose the latter. Ted told allie to call when she got there, and when she didn't call, ted called Rosa's house from the airport where he was dropping us off. She wasnt there. Nobody answered. Ted was scared that Rosa had taken allie again and rushed home from the airport. As it turned out, Rosa was starting to take allie somewhere, but allie convinced her to drop her off at a friend of Rosa's house, where Rosa was given a ride home and Allie stayed there and called her dad to pick her up. It amazes me how one person's selfishness can ruin two people's lives. Rosa needs to stay away from allie. i dont care how. Rosa should be in jail, dead, or in a different state. Not ruining her daughter's Christmas.
