hair cutting etiquette

Please tell me what you do at during typical visit to the hairstylist.

Mainly I'm interested in how you tip. Like, the technical details (line on the credit card receipt, cash).

Please?

A few of you have been kind enough to answer my questions on AIM. But I'd really like to hear from anyone else willing to share! Please! Yay!

hmm, perhaps I should reply to the inital question :-P

If it's at $12 cut, I'd say $2 if happy, less if otherwise. more then 12, $3 if happy. no more then 3, unless you get a super cute dood and you want his pants off NOW!!!!!

This was well over a week ago so you've probably already gone but I'm going to answer anyway. The amount I spend on my hair is embarrassing, which is why I now have 3" roots because I'd rather have roots than get my hair done someplace cheap or, even worse, someplace new, so I'm not getting it done again until I can afford it AND I can go back to Mario Tricocci in Lombard where I have been getting it done the last year. Typically I pay on credit for the whole thing and then hand individual cash tips: color runs about $90 so I give her a $15-20 tip, cut is $60 so I give her $10-15, and then $2-3 to the girl who rinses my hair. Or if I don't have any cash with me I tell them how I want to divide the tips and they put them on my card as well, but I always give cash to the girl who washes my hair because...I don't know, because that's what everyone does.
