So all was going well. We had a fun time on the snorkling trip, even though the snorkling it´s self was poor, and we checked into a nice but very hot hotel. After a night of hot unconfertable sleep we deside to upgrade to an air conditioned room. Good choice too becuase that night keven and i got sick. Wow, so soon. I agree with mom that it was probably food poisoning, however if the doctor diagnosed a "virus," it was probably "Montizuma's revenge," better know as dysentery. Also, I suspect the culprit was NOT a virus, but either a bacteria or ameba. Judging by the symptoms and my experience in India, you had a bout of Bacillary Dysentery - It is estimated that in some parts of the tropics 80% of the children acquire bacillary dysentery before the age of five; the mortality rate is high among infants and the aged if the infection is not treated, preferably with a broad-spectrum antibiotic. In adults bacillary dysentery usually subsides spontaneously, but treatment is desirable to prevent recurrence.

You do not take antibiotics for a viral infection. So much from doctor papa.

It probably would be better to spend a couple of extra days in the hotel, before traveling to Tapichula.
