NaNo Excerpt 2

Only got 500 words in till now, got to get work done, hoping to get to at least 5k today.

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“You’re not going to like this.” Williams told the two detectives.

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“What is it now,” Robert sighed, annoyed.

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“Um, I’m not sure how to say this.”

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“Just spit it out, will you?”

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“It seems like the guy on the table was… developing wings.”

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">Lisa stared at Williams like he had gone mad.

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“Like a bird?” she asked, confused.

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“More like… a butterfly,” Williams replied awkwardly.

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“Like a fairy you mean?” Lisa wasn’t even joking this time. This case was getting weirder and weirder.

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“Uh… yeah. But they weren’t fully developed yet. They were still growing. Actually, I’m pretty sure that a human being would never be able to use wings like that, they’re just too fragile to hold a man of that weight.”

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“A fairy that would never be able to fly,” Lisa mused.

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“He could use magic to help him fly,” Robert replied drily. “Is there any way to be sure that they were not implanted into him or something?”

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">Williams looked at his notes and frowned. “If that’s what it is, then it was done really well. The way the wings are growing… they don’t seem like a foreign object, the body wo0uld reject that somehow. I suppose there is a possibility but… I just do not know. I have never seen anything like this before, never heard of anything like this before. It seems impossible, like something from a science fiction film. And if this was done to him at birth, which is what this looks like… this is merging the dna of an animal and a human together. It has been done before with two animals, but to do that on a human, on a fetus or on a child, that would be illegal, I am sure about that.”

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“That’s it then,” Robert said triumphantly. “We finally have a crime. Illegal experimentation on human beings, right, Williams? We can get a mandate and haul Thompson here for questioning. And it would explain everything, right?”

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">Williams hesitated. “Yes, I suppose that could be an explanation. I would have to ask round though, I am not really familiar with the whole genetic mutation concept, it was beyond the scope of my studies.”

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“Yeah yeah, whatever. It has got to be something like that, doesn’t it?” Robert looked to Lisa for support, but Lisa was silent, deep in thought. “I thought we agreed fairies do not exist. I will not believe fairies exist. It is all simply scientifically impossible.” Lisa said nothing, but shrugged.

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">Lisa did not know what to think. She was in the presence of a corpse with wings. If that was possible, that opened up a horizon of millions of other possibilities. Who knew what existed and what did not? The universe was a big place, and it was impossible that they, humankind that is, had discovered all there was to discover.

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“There is one thing though,” Williams added, nervously.

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“What now Williams?” Robert grumbled. “You can’t possibly have something else.”

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“No, no, nothing else Detective Robert, nothing else. I just wanted to say that, well, …”

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“Spit it out, will you?”

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">

mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black">“We still have no idea how the man, eh, if he can even be called a man, died.”
