I have to laugh whenever I hear about an "endangered" insect.
They are arthropods! They comprise eighty percent of living species, and predate our existence by several hundred million years. I seriously doubt that you're going to wipe them out by clipping a hedge, or erecting a new, sprawling subdivision. Even if one group of them dies out it's not going to be the end of the world.
Penn & Teller have a great episode debunking lies about "endangered" species. I forget in which season of Bullshit it aired, but it was very illuminating. There was one severely handicapped woman who had to be bathed with a hose-in the backyard of her parents' house-because the city in which she lived refused to grant her a permit to build a handicap-accessible housing unit near a wooded area, which supposedly contained a mole rat that was on the verge of exitinction.
