Iris might be loved by everyone, but that's a really bad picture of her.

Yeah, well. Some people just aren't photogenic. Because, you know, I just look stunning in that picture.

yeah, I agree with the above. heh. that all sounds really cool, though. did you understand any of the speeches or any pieces of them? The dress is awesome. You'll have to model it for us when you get back. Hope all goes well with the ISP proposal. much love!

Not so much with the understanding. I got a couple of Amens thrown in so I think there were some prayers, but other than that, nope. I'm better in picking up everyday kinds of conversations (but only bits and pieces). And you will definitely see the dress. It is awesome!

Awesome dress! I like the sound of the present ceremony, where the giver unwraps and presents the gift. Sounds like a neat tradition!

Yeah, but I couldn't help thinking it takes all the fun out of opening presents. You lose the satisfaction of ripping off the wrapping paper, or something.

what's with the yellow, green, blue, red squares on white motif? Was that wedding specific, or generally cultural? It seems kind of odd, unique, and out of place.

Speaking of which, your outfit fits my sterotypes of an Egyptian god more than anything else.

I don't think the towels pattern was wedding specific. More just part of one of the women's outfits that got shared. The towels are probably more significant in that they may represent womanhood and fertility (??) because mothers carry their children on their backs by wrapping them in towels. That's only an educated guess though.

As far as my dress goes, my Mama says it's traditional Xhosa. Maybe back in the day the Egyptians and the Xhosa were friends.

Liz, this looks SO cool. And everything that you write...

God hon, I miss you. But it looks like you are having a hell of a time there. SO good luck with everything!
