Sexist Summer Intern... -_-

Jul 16, 2012 20:46

Well, this summer has been as busy as ever at work. We are undermanned and I am spending all my time on getting a brand new, Etath-designed verification system in place. However, I have also got the responsibility of a summer intern as luggage, and he really is a luggage, both time-wise and emotionally. I could tear him to bits at any moment ( Read more... )

Should take him off of working on anything and make him go get you and Jennifer Coffee.

When he asks why, tell him it's because he's too damn lazy to do the actual internship he was here for, and refuses to figure anything out for himself. Give him a little reality check into in internship.

I don't know how he can get that mentality as an Intern. He hasn't landed a job yet. He's supposed to be showing his knowledge, and willingness to learn, as well as an attempt at being productive in that work environment.

Yeah, I should do something like that, though, I doubt he would actually do it. And I wonder too, how he can have such a mentality as an intern. He is not protected by the usual work laws even, we could fire him on the day, if necessary. I think I will hasten a review of him.

I think you should, Get rid of him. It's too much work dealing with a tool like that, on top of your regular work load.

He was up for review today, but my manager decided to keep him... for now. :\

Anti-progress from an intern? What a nightmare. D:

It doesn't necessarily sound like he's sexist per se, but rather he has a problem with respecting others, especially those with higher station/experience.
Thank goodness he's not a permanent employee with you guys otherwise I would have suggested keeping a log of his behaviors and responses for an overall progress report, therefore justifying termination. Otherwise- just be thankful that he's not living with you too? XD

Hang in there Etath! It'll all be better before you know it.

I suppose you are right about that. It is Jennifer who think he is sexist, I suppose my perception has been coloured with the multitude of times she has been complaining to me about him. Though, he do treat the other male employees here with more respect than he treat me. He do not continuously question their knowledge, or their designs.

Thanks. *hugs* <3 I will hasten an evaluation of him and see what it leads to.

Given what you have said about him in chat (but not here) I would be almost certain he is sexist, as it is a common aspect of his culture. I've had a roommate much the same way. Very stubborn, hot-headed and disrespectful.... especially to women, ESPECIALLY in authority.

Hmm.. *nods* I try my best to keep prejudices and stereotyping out when evaluating people, but yeah, I fear he fit the lot pretty well, and it is difficult to keep an open mind to him when he acts like that. :\

Wow he sounds like a /massive/ craphole. It sucks so hard that you have to deal with him x_x When does his internship finish? With any luck he'll be mauled so badly at the end of it that no one will want to bother putting up with his bull professionally. >:|

I think it last until end of August, but I have hastened an evaluation of him, so maybe he will not be with us that long. It would be a relief to have him out of the offices...

I would love to have you as intern. We could be all dragony together! ^_^ And Norwegian is no requirement, we got two employees who do not speak Norwegian, one from Canada and one from Hungary.

wow,way to fail on being an intern! That's what I'd say to him, at least. If you get an internship, above all you should respect those who have been working with the company for a while. They're going to know SO much more than you no matter what because they've actually been dealing with the products and practices of the business, whereas being an intern you most likely have some small bit of experience and otherwise just an education, which is nothing compared to the field experience..

I wish I could be your intern, Etath! *Wags*

I would love to have you as intern. Then we could be all dragony together! ^_^
