ah ha! buy him a neck tie. he needs one to go with his lilac purple shirt. Since it will be hard for you to get the right shade just by a tie with lots of different shades of purple or something with purples in the patten. He likes cool hip ties, not boring business ones.

as for my dad... we got him a car cleaning kit...maybe you can expand upon that.
