Title: Spark Pairing: Kaoru/Rei Rating: R Notes: AU. Various forms of addiction. 1100 words or so. Uh, Rei's point of view and all which might be expected from that short of melodramatic French poetry.
Oh gosh, yes. I am all about the fucked up Rei fic, but there's something even more delightful about verging-on-happy Rei fic. Especially verging-on-happy-Rei survives!fic. :D :D I mean, this bit seriously made me tear up:
To say she would die for Kaoru doesn't do much to define her importance, although it's true.
Occasionally she thinks she might live for her. Just maybe.
Oh god. If this is set in the mangaverse, not only is it oh-so-powerful, but it's more right and true to me than the series itself. It's just...what I need to believe in, with her character.
I was really feeling the POV, here; it's suitably overwrought in that Rei-esque way, but it never really turns ridiculous or purple, and the things she sees in Kaoru are just wonderful. I love love love the concept of Kaoru hating people seeing her weakness, and Rei both respecting that and loving that about her, loving her strength. It's a really good match, a girl who doesn't want to be seen as sick with a girl who sees her as more filled with life than anything else in
( ... )
Pretty much everything I write spins off in some way from manga-verse, since I've only seen part of the anime (though I am aware of how it goes). And looking back over this piece I'm pretty amused by its ambiguity, actually. I should probably explore other parts of this AU as it's laid out in my mind at some stage, and explain it more fully; this piece seemed to have run to its natural conclusion, but I am pretty sure there could be others to go alongside it.
Again, thanks, and I'm ever so glad you enjoyed it! I really do wish there were more Oniisama E fics around, but if I can give anyone else some stuff to read then that's great. :D

Eee! Yes, please! I enjoyed the glimpses here and there of what Henmi is up to and what Kaoru and Rei's respective situations are in this universe, and I would eagerly read anything and everything else you put out about them and their suicide-free world. :D
In the morning she'll go back to the house for treatment and resent the people around her for seeing her weakness on display. Rei lets her show her strength instead.
THIS. I knew there was something about them I hadn't been able to put words to and it was this.
You should write more in this universe. You capture Rei's wangst without making it seem too much or silly, which could so easily happen with her. And I cry for Kaoru. And maybe Henmi lets her show her weakness but she's strong with Rei. That's why I like this pairing.
