Kurt Vonnegut did a LOT of work for adult publications,
strangely enough, quite a few authors of note get their start this way.

In the beginning, he wrote under a pen name,
in order to lose the stigma attached to the porn (I believe)
Its been so long since I've read it, but I know
"Breakfast of Champions" (yet another book you should read)
explains it thoroughly.

Just like Vonnegut makes himself a character in SH5, he made his pen-name
into a charachter, and appears (in a significant way) in a number of his books.
