It wasn't meant to be like this.
Things are spiraling out of control so fast and it is all Lelouch can do to cling to the fraying threads of his sanity. He can feel the hysteria and panic rise and swell inside of him and become a tide of guilt and regret that threatens to tear him down and drown him alive.
All he can think is a litany of I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry, because this time he actually cares. His house of cards is finally crashing down and all of his suppressed guilt is damning him now. There is Suzaku and Euphie and Nunnally too; the sacrifice was never supposed to be theirs.
"-losing control of the Geass," CC's words come back to haunt him. It is not only his Geass spiraling out of control but all of his carefully laid plans and all of his reasonings shattering around him as well. He has been teetering on the edge of his convictions for so long that this one misstep has him standing on air, bereft of any solid ground beneath his feet.
As he falls his lies unravel around him, weighing him down and Lelouch learns that even Zero can't give him wings.
