He wakes up with a start, not knowing why. Perhaps it was a dream or a nightmare that he jerked himself out of, or perhaps there was a noise that startled him; he does not remember what it was. Then, as he is still slowly blinking the sleep from his eyes, he realizes that he does not know who he is, where he is, why he's here. His eyes dart around wildly and his chest heaves with almost silent gasps of panic, causing something to shift and mumble in protest.
"Mmmuh...Senri..stop moving," is the childlike whine. He glances down and sees a head of wild black hair lying on his chest, a young boy with his nose wrinkled in agitation. He stares at the child; he knows this child somehow...there are faint memories of laughter and he can feel the phantom brush of feathers against his skin. But still he cannot quite recall anything beyond that and he shifts around in frustration, placing a calming hand on the boy's head when another whine sounds. Something hard and sharp pokes into his back and he winces, using his other hand to retrieve it.
It is a book, plain and nondescript. Slowly, he opens it and a pressed flower falls out. He picks it up and suddenly he can remember, not everything, but enough. Eagerly he pages through the book and with each flower he comes across there is a memory preserved that comes back to him. And though he still can't remember everything, this small collection of memories is a start. Finally, he turns the page and a black feather drifts down.
