Minsoo doesn’t know what he ever did to deserve this. All those visits to the gym, building up muscles and strengthening stamina aren’t supposed to be wasted on a rusty old swing at this aged little park they used to come to when they were 6 years old. Those speech and rap classes he took are not meant to be practised in a debate with her on every other afternoon she comes running to him with endless complains.

He lets out another loud sigh as he pushes her swing higher for the nth time. This - is one of those long afternoons.

Weird though; as much as he doesn’t enjoy spending his afternoon listening to her long-list of whines, he has never once uttered a single protest. He still lends her his ear, offers her his shoulder (and T-shirts to wipe her mucus tears on) and adds in a word of encouragement or two when he feels like it.

“Kid,” he calls out lazily. “When are you getting down? My arms are starting to get numb.”

She is a year older - still that doesn’t change the fact that he will always call her ‘kid’ and that he will always think of her as a girl he needs to constantly look after, and not a noona.

Chorong has grown accustomed to this though. She used to chide him, curse him and pinch him on all the visible skin he has - but eventually she let him be when she realised all her efforts just appeared to be futile and Minsoo will never see her as a noona.

“I am never getting down!” she shouts back, even when the distance between her up in the air and him on the ground isn’t that much far. “Not until Yongguk apologises to me!”

Minsoo shakes his head and sighs again. It’s about him again. It’s always about Yongguk.

“Yah, you’re really childish, you know that? It’s just about sending you home! Even I can do that,” he mutters the last part really quietly so that Chorong wouldn’t be able to catch it.

“It doesn’t matter!” she raises her voice as she swings up higher. “He still stood me up - and today wasn’t the first time.”

He chooses to ignore her. “Chorong, come get down. Let’s go home.”

“I don’t want to.”

“Stop being stubborn.”

“I don’t care.”

Minsoo places both hands on his hips. “Fine then. I’m leaving. You can stay here all alone, and when night comes, I’ll let all those - “

She doesn’t need to be told twice. Chorong pushes herself off the swing easily and picks her bag up from next to the swing set pole. Without another word to him, she heaves the bag up both her shoulders and starts to march off with a huge frown on her face. Minsoo is left baffled and hurries after her.

“Did you think I was really going to leave you alone?” he asks as soon as he catches up with her.  He extends out a hand, gesturing to take her bag from her - to which Chorong declines with a little shake of her head.

“I’m sure you would.”

“Oh, Chorong - “ he’s about to say ‘of course not. I will never leave you behind, especially not alone where I know you’ll cry and eventually I’m the one who has to come search for you and no I won’t leave you alone because I will end up blaming myself if anything were to happen to you and you’ll never know how bad I’ll feel because you’ve never tried to understand how I feel towards you’ , but the only thing that comes out from his mouth is, “...you know me best,” he grins and grabs the bag off her shoulders, before running away and shouting “Catch me kid!” - leaving Chorong no choice but to run after her best friend in annoyance.

“Yah, Bang Minsoo!”
