Gift 002 [Video]

Nov 09, 2011 02:36

[Armand is ripping a thorn covered vine off of his leg with a furious snarl. Blood does splash as he pulls the vine off and tosses it to the side, but he doesn't seem too bothered by the injury.]

Is this the sort of thing that I should be expecting regularly from Adstringendum? One mind-game after another? This is growing old!

adstring, i need more icons, ic, armand

This? This is hardly anything, compared to soem of the fuckery they've pulled before.

[He's about to reply, but suddenly the screen blurs as Armand dodges another trap, a large metal one from the sound of the clang. He adjusts his jacket and collar before addressing the video again.]

You wouldn't have any examples, would you?

Oh, there was the two weeks they took our powers, the week the entire city flooded andthe week it was underwater, the time where the sun didn't set for a week--the time the sun didn't rise for a week. The bit where we got to visit inside the heads of everyone else. the week where our own pasts were somehow changed.

And that's just the start of it. Random traps are nothing, comparatively.

No. They do seem like child's play. Irritating more than threatening.

Alas, good sir, it is. Every fortnight, or thereabouts, the Animus play their tricks on us. But sometimes, they are not so bad. The flocks of sheep were nice, as we gathered much wool during that week. And sometimes they give an abundance of food as one of their tricks.

[Neither of those were of much importance to him, so he just frowned. At least they meant that there would be some times of reprieve from these hideous tricks.]

Lovely. Do you know much about the Animus?

I know that they are cruel. They bring people here and toss them away again without thought as to how we would feel to lose the people for whom we care deeply. And they have done such to the same person more than once, returning them a stranger each time. They speak in riddles and make very little sense. My ward called them 'elephants' when she was here, but they do not resemble any elephants I have ever seen in pictures. They keep to their sanctum in the heart of the city, and only speak to us through these little machines.

And I suppose that it is impossible to reach them in their sanctum?

What do they look like?

[There's a whistling sound from the wind passing and the screen shows a blur of colours as there's the sound of falling dirt and leaves. For a split second, wood spikes could be seen in a pit, but that was replaced with another blur, and then Armand came back into focus with a sarcastic smile,]

What a warm welcome! Pit traps, bear traps, vines and branches, all aiming to incapacitate!

You are?

It'd be nicer if they caught animals and not people. Name's Ed. You?

Armand.

[He bends and reaches out before snapping his hand back as there is a loud metallic bang. It seems that his hand is just fine, at least.]

I have been thinking of disarming as many of these metal traps that seem useful and bringing them back with me. Perhaps if I am lucky, they will not be stolen by the Animus when the rest of these go away.

Really, you just got here and it's already growing old? You'll go mad inside a month at this rate.

I'm not quite so easily broken. [Apparently just easily irritated as he rips off another creeping vine, snapping it from the rest and tossing it away.]

That's too bad. There's something awfully entertaining about the people who just can't take this place.

I'm sorry I can't be a source of entertainment. The best I might offer is a bit of theatre, and I have not tried my hand at that in quite some time.

That's tame, actually. Dangerous, but ... not the worst they can do.

Irritating more than dangerous at this level.

You should get used to it. It's not going to get better.

I'll keep that in mind.
