OMFG! Saw the "RENT" movie opening night (Wednesday) with my friends April and Annette. It was fucking amazing. Anyone who hasn't seen it yet--Get thee to a cinema! NOW!!! Everytime I see the promos for RENT I want to go see it. I love the theme music! Just from the 30 seconds I've seen I can tell it's an awesome movie, and your review just further proves it ;)

See, I was all prepared to go in and be harshly critical of the movie. I tend to DO that when they adapt books/plays/TV shows I like into movies. I mean--Phantom...while I loved it, I actually CRIED because they cut a whole damn VERSE out of the TITLE SONG. I mean--I understand cutting some things, but cutting a verse out of THE song that everyone associates with the show and that everyone familiar with the show will be wanting to HEAR ( ... )

That's where I might have the upperhand going into the movie, since I haven't seen the stage version of either Phantom or RENT. But I totally know what you mean about butchering the adaptations. I can go into RENT and fully enjoy the movie without noticing the differences. I was the same way with Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants - I hadn't read the book before seeing the movie, so I didn't know how they *completely* changed Lena's story around. After seeing the movie and then reading the book... talk about a slaughter. But the movie was still great, despite the difference. At least with RENT the changes weren't huge and the storyline still makes sense ( ... )
