Running

Jan 13, 2009 17:50

So I have a confession to make. I've been slacking pretty hardcore on my running since mid-December when I caught the respitory death flu. I tried going back a few days after it ended, but ended up wheezing so badly that I didn't even make two miles, so I had to wait for lung capacity to return. And then my back was causing me some difficulties ( Read more... )

I think taking care of yourself, especially your back injury, is more important. So, try not to get too down on yourself. Getting out of shape happens really quickly. More quickly than it feels like it should. I didn't skate over my holiday break of only 2 weeks, and I'm gimpy and sore today after practice on Sunday, plus I got a blister on my heel. That hasn't happened since I broke my skates in over a year ago, grraaah.

I don't run, but I think 4 months is still enough time to prepare.

Misery loves company, so I will sympathize. Before my bike injury I was in the best shape I'd been in since high school. Just before the injury, I could swim 400 m in 11:46; was able to bike for 50 minutes on level 6 at 100 rpm (15.5 miles); I was running 10-minute miles (although my tri pace was 11:10). Now, I am glad to be able to bike the same time at a much lower rpm and lower resistance level; my swimming pace is much slower; I haven't had the guts to try running yet. :-( I am sad. But I am proud to be going back to the gym and doing my best to recuperate from an injury. You are doing the same. You will make it.

And sprinting a mile in 8:30 - or even running six at 13:00 - is awesome!

You inspire me. Be proud.

Also, you are still hhhhot.

How many running miles are in a triathalon?

I barely made two tonight; I started wheezing again and almost went into an asthma attack, and coughed up a lot of phlegm. That's the second time since the flu attacked me; I'm pretty discouraged from that.

As soon as my times start to improve again, I'll feel better. I think I just need to start at a lower level and work my way back up so I see visible improvement, instead of trying to hop back in at my former level and expect the same level of performance, and be constantly disappointment.

The tri I did, the running segment was only 3.1 miles - a 5 K. So you doubled that the other day! (The biking was about 17 miles and the swim was 750m.)

I am nowhere near my previous level and I just have to accept that. Start at a level that is healthy for where you are NOW and I bet you will curve up from it pretty quickly.

Someday I'd like to do a triathalon...you really inspired me last year. Maybe that'll be next winter's goal; I know they have a lot of indoor ones around here.

Or...or...maybe by that time you'll be back in MN and we could train towards the same one?...just a random spur of the moment thought. :)

it's been said before, but bears repeating... muscle weighs ALOT more than fat. heavier doesn't mean worse.

also, your system will remember and ramp up to the activity alot quicker since it's been there before. it'll be easier to get back to where you were than it was to get there in the first place.

i'm having the exact same problem, i slacked off during faire and -still- haven't entirely gotten back to where i was before faire, but i still am in a better place compared to where i was before i started exercising.

keep going lady, your hotness knows no bounds.

My New Year's resolution was to get rid of what I've dubbed "Bus Pass Flab." As in, walking the routes I used to walk before I got my stupid buss pass late last summer and saving it for grocery runs and lousy weather only.
