The context to my question is mainly at work. I'll update the original post to reflect this.
Mainly, I feel my contribution is undervalued, and suspect the reason for this has to do with delivery, rather than quality of commentary, but am not sure where my delivery is falling down.
However, I'm not sure it's limited to work. I do have a general feeling that some people get more taken seriously than others throughout life.
I have found that publicising one's work is important sometimes. It feels silly and pointless, but it can be very valuable for getting recognition

Also: not caring too much about whether the other person is taking one seriously or not, because one is not relying on them, is often good.
