I'm speaking just for myself here, but I suspect most of us would be happy to sanction your tournament.

I suspect some WGL members will object to the idea that a director can exclude members (they'll probably bring up the lame, tired slippery slope argument), but I have heard more than one player advocate for directorial freedom, and I will be pushing for this as well.

I'm just curious, have you told Steve that you'd cancel the event rather than let him join the tournament? Maybe I'm naive in my belief for human decency, but I really think that if you let him know that, he would not be inclined to push the issue.

Well aside from his rude behavior on a regular basis and his theft of a couple of thousand dollars from the Scrabble community at large (yes he has now paid it back, but it took him 2 years to do it.) The straw that broke the camels back was this.
