I will remain active in some form, but I cannot financially support NASPA so long as they seek to limit my choices as a director when I have done nothing to warrant such limitations. The rest I agree I would work within NASPA to change things, unfortunately the current situation makes that impossible.

thanks for the post Jeremy.

I mostly echo what XP says, since we talk a lot.

I'm thinking of going to Phoenix - you'll be there?

I think XP and I have largely agreed on the gist of what's going on.

I think many of your complaints are totally legit and should be addressed, maybe not immediately, but certainly in time. Some of the missteps NASPA made (the newsletter fiasco especially) were completely unnecessary. With a proper way of addressing the issue, the same split with Corny could have happened in a way that ruffled no feathers.

However -- I think I'm about to post to CGP, as foolish as that is -- WGPO is not part of the solution. It was their choice to create all of the political unpleasantness in the community today instead of being (even more) patient and working with NASPA to improve what we had.

In what way would it have been possible to work within NASPA to correct these issues? I ju8st posted a reply to Lipe on CGP, WGPO doesn't just exist because of a group of malcontents, but because the governance structure of NASPA didn't provide for people that had grievances to have them heard and addressed. There are no votes or referendums in NASPA, there are no electable bodies or player representatives, there is what NASPA says and that is it. It seems to me that in order to be able to work from within NASPA there has to be a system in place that would allow that work to be done and that doesn't exist right now.

Sorry Cesar I thought Lipe's comment was yours and not the other way around..still what I said remains true there was nothing in place in NASPA that would allow for change from within.

Great post man! Like XP said, I really hope you stick around the competitive Scrabble scene. You are good for Scrabble. While some of us have chosen to stay involved with NASPA, we share your frustration and want to see things change too. Out of frustration with the political crap going on, my Scrabble club remains unofficial, flying under no organizational banner.

If CGP this past couple of weeks is any indication, even John Chew and Chris Cree are not on the same page at the moment. Just look at the whole Collins at Nationals shenanigans Chew initiated. Where I disagree with Lipe is that I DO think WGPO serves a positive purpose, that being to show NASPA just how badly they've screwed up so that they get their act together. As long as there's a monopoly there's no reason to change what you do, but with the current duopoly change is going to have to come...
