On deck, by the rail. The Etherium is still parked on the desert on the planet. PJ & Tag are talking, along with anyone else who joins in."Oh, aye," she laughed. "Birds around here are plentiful, but most don't fly much. They're fat and just flap from tree to tree--hardly any come out in the desert, here, where the ship's parked

He smiled at her. She wasn't going to get anything out of him, but he enjoyed her trying. "Hunted a few relics in your day, then? Before the stranger that left you on the planet in the middle of your vacation?"
He couldn't imagine someone just leaving her there. She wasn't starving, true, but it sounded like something stupid that his brother would do.

"I've hunted many things," PJ answered blandly, crossing her legs with a bit of effort. "Most notably those fat flapping birds from which I got the feathers. And of course, turtle eggs." She shuddered. "I ate more turtle egg soup in the past 1,117 days than you could...possibly imagine."

Heut stood, and dusted himself off. Shin would be doone soon, and he'd have to inspect his toothbrush - he wouldn't put it past the boy to use it instead. "If you're hungry for something less extic, we've a rather large cupboard below, and Xan will be more than happy to make something for you should you ask. I, meanwhile, must go and check on a few things in the stores. Should you need me, you might find me there, or in my quarters. Feel free to meet with the rest of the crew, they're a friendly bunch, and will likely start trickling in over the next few hours before we take off again."

Still, moments after Tag had walked by, he couldn't resist sticking his tongue out, just a little. He was far too close for head-squishing.

PJ pulled her favorite knife out, one it had taken her over a year to make. She had whittled it out of stone with other stones, wearing away at it until it was pretty damn sharp, and balanced enough to be a formidable projectile weapon. The only problem was, PJ was much better aiming a gun than she was with a knife. She had an idea that skinny little cat might be able to make a pincushion out of her.
Unfortunately, when they had marooned her the first thing she lost was her favorite flintlock, and the only one they'd allowed her. Right into the bitey-fish pool. She scowled. YOu never know when you're going to nee--"What the bloody hell?!" she blurted out, rolling to her feet and glaring at the sky above ( ... )

"You don't know them, then," she said flatly.
He shook his head, and turned to her, his eyes narrowing. "I was a bit more worried 'bout you knowin' 'em," he muttered ( ... )

Well, if they took Flint's ship, they'd get the map; there wasn't really another way around that, other than burying it here with the Etherium's crew's bodies. He shuddered. But what he could do was at least prevent them from getting to use it, and that he would do.
I'm disobeying again, he thought grimly. I'm turning into a regular loose cannon. I don't know what's gotten into my head, but it'll get the better of me soon, I shouldn't wonder.Shin-sin-fa had a habit of making secret places in his spare time; he'd already put four in the rafters in the hold and two in the walls. The ones in the walls were easier to find, but also they held larger objects. Shin-sin-fa took the map from Flint's desk and sneaked into the hold, feeling guilty and panicked. It would be mere minutes before that other ship arrived ( ... )
