Today was a pretty rough day. I knew I'd have a busy day, going from work to school to working on a group project. I didn't anticipate events at work making things harder to cope with

Yeah, she's said things after I have left the room to the effect of...
"Back in the day they'd take gays out back and set em right."
It really is a hostile environment for me sometimes. Considering they think they know I'm gay and still say such things, I wonder if it could be considered harassment.
*shrugs* Guess I'll just have to be strong at work, and allow myself to be weak some other time.
It is harassment, I'm pretty sure, whether or not you really are gay... it's comments about sexuality that make you uncomfortable.
I've almost got that research together, and it's pretty much bad news. Michigan is an at-will employment state, so you can be fired at any time for no reason.... unless you can prove they're discriminating in one of the protected classes... which are ADA standard. Gender, race, Vietnam vet status, disability. Not sexuality nor gender ID. I'm trying to sort out if there have been any recent cases to challenge that. Most of the most recent is from the 1980s with HIV+ stuff.
Have you looked in the employee handbook, by any chance? Sometimes handbooks have stuff that's not in the law and employers are bound to them.
It seems, from his gossip chain as I can follow it, that Nursing knows, morning Lab knows, and night Lab knows. That only leaves recruitment, reception, amd supervisors.
Recruitment is so full of gossips, I can only imagine they suspect. Reception is right next to nursing, so I bet they've heard. As far as supervisors, that's where the fear sets in.
They're the ones I have to be cautious of. They're the ones who can kick me out into the cold. I sometimes think I should come out to them for my own protection, but how can I protect myself from the protectors if they turn on me?!
damn, don't really know what to tell you dav. as has already been said, discrimination based on sexual orientation isn't something that's protected against in this state. hmm, try slipping on some ice out on the sidewalk in front of the building or something *shrugs*
'shrugs' What can I say? Life is not fun all the time. My best and only advice is to get another job. It truly is all I can think of. I know that with the economy being what it is and Saginaw being what it is the probability of finding a job is not good, but what else can I say other than to stay strong? Take care.
